Molly Rose: Portrait Painter/Jewelry Maker/Creator of Things
Being an artist means not numbering or counting, but ripening like a tree, which doesn’t force its sap, standing confidently in storms, not afraid that summer may not come.
~Rainer Maria Rilke
My art is inspired by many things: dreams, archetypal psychology, the Cosmos, people I love and have loved, the Unknown, fairy tales and mythology, smell memories, the concept of “saudade”, patterns found in Nature, the words of Rilke and Jung, the human body, transformation, stars, and of course…the inexpressible connection between all Things.
My love of portraiture began at a very early age. I have always been both an artist and an observer. At three, I began describing people not by their names or personalities, but by the shapes of their heads. My mom says that’s how she first knew I was an artist. My early sketchbooks began filling with images of people, and today I still can’t seem to stay away from the subject. Portraiture helps me know and understand people more deeply: self-portraiture does the same for my own psyche.
Since the advent of photography, the art of portrait painting has sadly dwindled. Please allow me to paint your portrait, or the portrait of a beloved human or animal in your life. Help save a dying art! And have something lovely to hang on your wall in the process.
Each of my art pieces contain some element of renewal, whether it is a recycled material or a revisited dream or memory. The act of making something out of something else is at the heart of artistic creation. What is art but transformation?
Art too is just a way of living. ~Rilke

Your vision will become clear only when you look into your heart. Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside awakens.
